I used to get email notifications as well but due to the number of people who use autoresponders I had to remove it as it was filling my inbox all the time :)

I pay attention to my Twitter dms - receiving email alerts so I can scan them quickly through my phone. Most are autoresponder thank you's, but there are still quite a few people who use direct messages for what they're meant to be!
